African indigenous seeds — the crops of our kitchens
Ugwu, egusi, ata rodo, okra and local tomato are the backbone of Nigerian cooking, and they grow best from seed adapted to our climate. This collection gathers the indigenous and locally adapted lines held at the PlantHaus nursery.
Our premium ugwu seeds are hand-selected within the pod for viability, and every sachet lists its seed count so you can plan beds and spacing with confidence.

— Frequently asked
Why buy indigenous seed rather than imported hybrids?+
Indigenous and open-pollinated lines are adapted to local heat, rainfall and pests, and you can save seed from your own harvest for the next season.
How many ugwu seeds do I need?+
At about 50 cm between plants and 1 m between rows you need roughly 20,000 seeds per hectare; a kitchen garden bed of 10 m² takes 20–30 seeds. Our Seed Quantity Calculator is coming to the Growing Academy.
Can I order seeds for family in Nigeria from abroad?+
Yes — see our diaspora page. You choose the seeds, we confirm the Nigerian delivery address or collection point with your recipient.
